Aside from relaying Harrison’s rules of engagement, she
offered a bit of personal advice: “See how things evolve and perhaps Jim will
be open after the interview to meeting you and your father-in-law for a
beverage in town or some such thing. Jim is a gracious man.”
The day before the interview, Phil and I arrived in
Patagonia in the late afternoon. Not having had lunch, we walked into the only
place where we could get something to eat, the Wagon Wheel Saloon — which
we knew was his favorite haunt.
Five minutes after we ordered our burgers and beer, Harrison
walked in with two other men. They had spent the afternoon bird hunting.
