Magritte, The Sixteenth of September, 1956
POSTPRANDIAL
When my dog and I
step outside after dinner to pee,
a frightened squirrel leaps Nureyev-like
from limb to branch to twig
all the way to the top of the oak
while a crow holds his perch,
deep in the foliage, cawing,
because he's a crow
and because these to arrogant Earth-dogs
are peeing under his tree.
