Red Wings' defenseman Chris Chelios has been named to the U.S Hockey Hall of Fame.
Chelios, 49, won three Norris trophies as the NHL’s top defenseman and three Stanley Cups in a career that spanned 1,651 games with Montreal, Chicago, Detroit and Atlanta.
A year after winning the 1983 NCAA championship with Wisconsin, Chelios represented the U.S. for the first of 10 times internationally at the ’84 Olympics. He captained the ’98, 2002 and ’06 Olympic hockey teams, winning silver at Salt Lake City. He also helped the U.S. beat Canada at the 1996 World Cup of Hockey.
