"I am not one who was born in the custody of wisdom. I am one who is fond of olden times and intense in quest of the sacred knowing of the ancients." Gustave Courbet

We love grace as long as it is directed toward us and toward the people we approve. But start talking about grace toward those other people and grace looks ridiculous. Grace is scandalous. I think that is why when Jesus talks about grace he uses stories that sound extreme. A vineyard owner who treats those who work only an hour the same as though who work all day. A father who throws a big welcome home party for his rebellious son. A shepherd who would leave ninety-nine perfectly good sheep to go look for the one idiot that got lost.

Thank you, Karen.
