Rachmaninoff was a powerful composer and performer, but he could spin a delicate tune seemingly from nowhere (for example, I like the part around 33:40 of the Alla breve movement of this performance, or the 18th variation of his Rhapsody). My mother loved Rachmaninoff. It was probably the first classical music I heard, and I still enjoy it. Thanks for sharing.
