Pollock, Number 8, 1949
The method of painting is the natural growth out of a need. I want to express my feelings rather than illustrate them. It doesn't matter how the paint is put on, as long as something is said. There was a reviewer a while back who wrote that my pictures didn't have any beginning or any end. He didn't mean it as a compliment, but it was.
