Each.

I sat on a log fallen over a river and heard
that like people each stretch had a different voice
varying with the current, the nature
of its bed and banks, logjams, boulders,
alder or cedar branches, low-slung
and sweeping the current, the hush of eddies.
In a deep pool I saw the traces of last night’s moon.
