Mesmerizing.

Scientist and writer Cassandra Brooks is posted up on a research vessel in the Ross Sea near Antarctica, taking samples of sea water in conditions that can drop to -60º F. For the last two months, the Nathaniel B. Palmer has been crunching along with a hull that can smash through ice 10 feet thick, while Brooks has been shooting a time lapse. The result is mesmerizing — a reminder that no matter how much you think the world has shrunk, it’s still big, wild, and cold out there.
